Mark Yearwood

  • Growing up on my grandfather's farm in rural Oklahoma taught me the value of hard work. I later honed my skills at my dad's custom auto shop, where I learned to pinstripe and letter cars. With over 30 years of experience in graphic arts and a portfolio that includes awards and appearances in major publications, I've always experimented with various art projects. However, my artistic journey took a new direction when I purchased some palette knives, paints, and canvases on a whim, and delved into the world of abstract art.

Working with abstract art allows me to express my own original thoughts on substrate, and I am continually amazed at the sense of liberation it brings. My art is heavily influenced by the "grittiness" of nature, which I experienced firsthand growing up on a farm, and the structural elements of my design background. As for color, I paint what I feel inside.

For me, the most thrilling part of creating abstract art is the endless possibilities it presents. Each mark on the canvas forces me to make decisions about what comes next. Unlike realism, the painting's final destination is unknown, which makes the process even more exciting. I am constantly amazed by how the painting seems to push me along in the process, and I am grateful for the opportunity to express myself through my original art.
